Modernism (re-write)

Modernism was an art movement which started in 19th century approx in 1890. The word 'modern' comes from a Latin word 'modernus' which means 'just now'. The style of art was usually flat colored, simplified, spiky and sharp edged. It didn't have much detail or shading. As you look at few artist's artwork such as Pablo Picasso's, you will notice that his artwork is nothing but a combination of different colored shapes which created a completely new image. Architecture, art and literature in that movement rejected the idea of realism. The artists who were part of the movement were the people who thought that traditional art, literature, religion, architecture were out of date and wanted something 'new' in the new social. economic and political world. Modernism ended during the 20th century approx in 1945.

Here is one of Picasso's paintings which he did in that style.
'Les Demoisiles' by Pablo Picasso done in 1907.
